Yes, I am a pop producer first, and my life revolves around 3-minute pieces of gold that I have to listen to over and over again.
When I think of a "Top Shelf" Reggae Band, the first group that comes to mind is always Rebelution. This unique group is the perfect mix of Roots Reggae, Dub Reggae, Pop Reggae and the whole ball of wax. If you have seen Rebelution in concert, it always seems to feel like I am in the middle of the most amazing spiritual service where all I keep asking myself is "Feeling alright?"
Now when I look at the band "Magic," signed to Sony Music back in 2013, I hear a great band but not with any of the depth of Rebelution. It will be interesting to see if the band continues to chart. I like the band; it is about a bigger message that is still pop but spreads the Reggae vibe.
The track "Rude" is an incredible record, and yet if you look at the amount of material that Rebelution puts out each year, Magic could probably learn some lessons from the Rebelution & especially Eric Rachmany.
Yes, I said yes Rebelution is on tour in 2017, check out the video.
Eric Rachmany, the leader and key songwriter in Rebelution once said:
“Just hearing people come up to us and tell us how we got them through a tough time and helped them see things more positively –that makes it all worth it,” Rachmany said. “Sometimes the road is tough, but we know we’re doing a good thing by getting out there and playing for the people.”
Scott Brown has a real passion for reggae music.
