Written & Researched by Mitch Santell Producer / Co-founder This month the Greensleeves Record Label celebrated their 40th Anniversary of setting Reggae trends and creating some iconic music since their launch back in 1977. Here is a variety of stories that I found across the internet. Greensleeves Records, founded in 1977, created a legacy of respected reggae artists such as Yellowman, Barrington Levy, Shabba Ranks, Beenie Man, Mr. Vegas, Shaggy, Vybz Kartel, Elephant Man and more. Their work with domestic and international artists helped develop the reggae genre in the U.K. and Europe and set a standard for presenting the music and culture with quality and respect. Greensleeves went from being a humble record shop to the leading UK reggae label in the space of just a few years. The first issues were 7″s by The Reggae Regulars and Dr Alimantado released towards the end of 1977. By the start of the 1980’s the label was at the forefront of the Dancehall boom in the UK, issuing 12″ Disco 45’s by top producer Junjo Lawes as well as Linval Thompson and to a lesser extent Prince Jammy and Jah Thomas. #birthday #red #youtube #greensleeves #sweet #wedding #errolbrown #bobmarley #bigreggaemix
