On March 21st of 2018, a miracle happened. What was that miracle? The Board of Mateel held a three-hour meeting where it announced that a Contract with "High Times" was signed to produce Reggae on the River in 2018.
The Jamaica Observer wrote:
According to the statement, “High Times will assume all responsibility for the upcoming festival's talent line-up, marketing, and monetisation efforts. The brand will also provide the Mateel Community Center with best practices learned from its long and successful production history in an effort to ensure the experience is on par with what the industry has come to expect from its premier brand.”
The timing of High Times stepping up to save Reggae On The River could not have been more perfect. The solution to the ROTR challenge started back in June of 2017 when Bob Marley's son Damian and 19 other investors became the majority owner in High Times Magazine along with the brand! It was a perfect fit and still is.
The son of legendary musician Bob Marley and 19 other investors have bought a controlling interest in High Times magazine.
